The traditional Ambassadors’ Conference has now become a full “diplomatic week”, in line with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s objective for greater openness. This latest version of Ambassadors’ Week, to be held in Paris from 29 August to 2 September 2016 on the theme of “Security, territories and Europe”, confirms this trend.
This week is an opportunity to get a greater insight into the work of ambassadors and to enable the public to learn more about major diplomatic issues. Among the topics addressed this year : the fight against terrorism, the future of Europe, economic diplomacy with a speed-dating moment dubbed “1 ambassador and 1 entrepreneur” and territorial issues in diplomatic action.
This week is also the moment when French highest authorities will hand out their roadmap and guidelines to their diplomatic staff for the coming year.
It is a peer-to-peer reunion for ambassadors to gather and discuss their experience. Beyond diplomatic staff, ambassadors will also meet with experts, civil society, elected representatives and private-sector representatives.
Each day, a topic related to current foreign policy hottest issues will be debated during working sessions and/or public sequences.
This year, Internet users will be able to take part in the working sessions and interact with ambassadors and special guests via a special online platform.
In addition to workshops opened to the public and entrepreneurs (on the 29th-30th of August), a social room has been created for the event : live debates, testimonies, behind-the-scenes coverage and interviews with special guests will be available on social networks, via #SemaineAmbass. You can find all about the Social Room timetable on France Diplomatie.
Finally, this week will celebrate one of the main assets of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs : the mastering of foreign languages.
Students from the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), one of the oldest and most prestigious language schools in Europe, will take us for behind-the-scenes moments to discover the exotic language they are learning.
