Call for applications – Human Rights Prize of the French Republic

This year, young human rights defenders and individuals or organisations running projects providing relief and assistance to people in need are invited to submit applications in French by 14 October 2019.

Every year since 1988, the French Republic through its Consultative Commission on Human Rights (CNCDH) recognizes five individuals or collective projects promoting and protecting human rights in France or abroad.

This year, individuals or organisations of any nationality are invited to submit applications (in French) fitting in one of the following themes :

1) Young Human Rights Defender :

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations’ General Assembly, young (under 18) human rights activists working individually or collectively to promote and defend human rights are invited to apply.

2) The duty of brotherhood  :

The first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “All human beings [...] should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” This implies recognizing the inherent dignity of all members of the human family. The principles of brotherhood and dignity are central to the universality of human rights.
Under this theme, applications are therefore open to individuals or organisations running projects that seek to address humanitarian needs, provide relief and assistance to people in need, whoever and wherever they are, particularly by extending an unconditional welcome.

The 5 winners will be invited to Paris for an official ceremony and will be sharing a 70 000 euros prize to implement their respective projects. In addition, five runners-up will be awarded a ‘special recognition’ medal by the French Ambassador posted in their country of origin.

The complete application must be written in French and include :

a) An application letter signed by either the individual or the president or legal representative of the organisation applying.
b) The application form attached, but which can also be downloaded from the CNCDH website : http://www.cncdh.fr/fr/prix/prix-des-droits-de-lhomme.
The application must present, in details, the actions carried out by the individual or organisation
c) A presentation of the organisation (statutes, operations, etc.), where appropriate.
d) The postal address and bank details of the NGO or the individual applying.

Candidates must submit their complete application to the General Secretariat of the Commission by 14th October 2019 at :
