First edition of the France-Uganda Friendship Week, from March 18th to March 25th

The France-Uganda Friendship Week will take place from Saturday 18 March to Saturday 25 March 2017. Music, culture, gastronomy, wildlife, sports: many memorable, positive moments consecrating the friendship between our two countries. Find below the program of the whole week.


For the very first time, the Embassy of France in Uganda decided to celebrate the long-term friendship that unites France and Uganda by a special week made of numerous events and very particular moments.

Francophonie Day – Saturday 18 March 2017


This event, celebrated every year all around the world, gathers hundreds of people and all the French-speaking population in Uganda. The French language and francophone cultures will be celebrated at the French School – Les Grands Lacs Kampala from 1pm to late. Tourism & Environment Day – Monday 20 March 2017


This day is dedicated to the promotion of a sustainable development and the strengthening of partnership between France in Uganda in the tourism industry. Tourism professionals will have the opportunity to meet each other and discover the wonderful landscapes of France and Uganda.

Goût de France – Tuesday 21 March 2017


Goût de France, an initiative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of International Development, will celebrate French cuisine and its values. On this occasion, the Embassy of France will organize a special dinner gathering 200 people. During this dinner, a Ugandan chef and a French chef will compete to receive the Prize of the best dish. Each chef will be assisted by a brigade of five young Ugandan professionals, and the winning chef will choose one of them to receive a scholarship for professional French classes and for a training in a very prestigious French cuisine school in Paris. Moreover, from March 19th to March 26th, 10 restaurants in Kampala will propose a French Gastronomic Menu: The Bistrot ; Endiro ; Epicurien ; Mediterraneo ; Château ; Pearl of Africa Restaurant ; Olives Restaurant & Bar ; La Patisserie ; L’auteur ; Dancing Cup.

Academics Day – Wednesday 22 March 2017


This event consists of two one-hour debates and will be hold at Makerere University. The debates will be live broadcast on NBS. These debates (“Youth and Politics” and “Media and Politics”) aim to compare views and experience through the eyes of citizens from two different countries. Gates open at 1pm, Makerere main hall. Free entrance, for all.

Defence Day – Thursday 23 March 2017

For a long time, increasing years after years, France and Uganda have built a partnership to reinforce the global fight against terrorism and to upgrade operational capacities.
Being part of the France-Uganda Friendship week, the French military mission intended to thank the Ugandan uniformed corps in a different context that the office and training camps, and to promote this excellent relationship during a social event.

Sports Day – Friday 24 March 2017

Taking advantage of the dynamism of our military bilateral cooperation and the importance of football among the Ugandan society, the objective is to reinforce our global relationship through an event of sport diplomacy, organizing a football game between the Cranes and the French military team. The Sports Day is part of this spirit. Mixed teams composed of Ugandan and French players will visit 5 schools aiming at showing, explaining and sharing sports value to pupils.

Football and Music Day – Saturday 25 March 2017


In the biggest Ugandan stadium, National Stadium Mandela-Namboole, 40,000 people will get together to share an enjoyable moment with the whole communities in Uganda gathered around sports and music on the purpose of a charity project for sport facilities in disadvantaged communities. The Ugandan national football team and the French military team will play against each other at 4pm. There will be a music concert from 2pm to 4pm, and from 6pm to 12pm. Many famous Ugandan and francophone artists are participating: Navio; Bebe Cool; Sheebah; Eddy Kenzo; Kongoloko; DJ BBrave (France); DJ Kampire; Buganda Ensemble ; Nilotika. Tickets are sold in Total and Airtel stations. Gates open at 11am.
