France: Queen of Tourism
With 83.7 million visitors in 2014, France remains the leading tourist destination in the world, far ahead of the United States (2nd position) and Spain (3rd position).
Figures that do not lie
According to an annual poll conducted with foreign visitors (EVE) about international tourism in France, by the Directorate-General for Enterprises, in partnership with the Bank of France, France remains the number one touristic destination with its 83.7 million foreign visitors in 2014. The highest increase was recorded with the Chinese tourists (+61%).
The figures at the beginning of 2015 are also very promising, with the number of visa applications highly increasing, particularly in India and China, where the applications rose by 38% and 65% respectively during the first two months. The French minister of foreign affairs, Mr Laurent Fabius, has set as the next goal for France to welcome 100 million foreign tourists per year, by 2020.
