France in Uganda getting ready for Paris 2024
While the campaign is in full swing worldwide to determine which city will organize the 2024 Olympic Games, the French presence in Uganda, and in the first place the French embassy, is responding to the call and has already received support from many Ugandans.
William Blick, the president of the Ugandan Olympic Committee, is enthusiastically backing Paris in this competition. During his different meetings with the French Ambassador to Uganda, Stéphanie Rivoal, he expressed his support to the French capital’s bid.
France has recently demonstrated its ability to host major sporting events, while maintaining a popular, safe and festive environment, despite the difficult international context. Recent major events held in France, both sporting and others, have displayed France’s knowledge and expertise in this area, like the COP21, UEFA Euro 2016 and the World Men’s Handball Championship. At Euro 2016, over 1.2 million people in Paris and over 4 million throughout France enjoyed the fanzones in complete safety.
The Paris 2024 bid is solid and responsible, with the strong values of humanism, inclusion and togetherness - values which France wants to share internationally. These values are being promoted by France among our Ugandans friends with whom we share a lot in common. On the basis of these common values, the Ugandan students at Alliance française chose to support Paris’ bid.
Coming together, giving voices to everyone and especially the youngsters is one of Paris 2024’s strong concepts. Paris 2024 Committee has built its whole project thanks to citizens’ participation, especially the children. In this context, students at the French School in Kampala, Ecole Française Les Grands Lacs, took the initiative in organizing themselves to support Paris 2024.
