Ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence
Today 4th July in Strasbourg, France will deposit the instrument to ratify the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (so-called Istanbul Convention), which it signed on 11th May 2011.
France will be the 13th State Party to ratify the convention, which will come into force on 1st August 2014.
The ratification of this convention matches France’s steadfast commitment, on a national scale and on the international stage, to stepping up the prevention of and fight against violence against women and domestic violence, and victim protection.
France calls on all the Council of Europe’s member states which have not yet done so to sign and ratify this convention.
