World Cycling Championships: France takes gold
It was at home, on the Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines’s track, that the French cyclers last Wednesday clinched gold medal during the men’s team sprint, after the New-Zealand’s team got disqualified.
Three years after missing the exact same title of world champions, with a close call of a few thousandth seconds, against Australia, Grégory Baugé, Kévin Sireau and Michael d’Almeida were fearing a repeat of that situation. However, fortune favored them when the jury disqualified the New-Zealand’s side for performing a premature relay, i.e. a relay out of the zone provided for in the regulations. This mistake sent the French trio straight to the first step on the podium and gave Les Bleus a good start at the Track world championships.
